The Philippines is cannot be easily identified as a nation possessing fragile democracy or strong republic. As the promise of democracy was granted, it does not reassure us a true democratic nation because of the different factors that contributed to its weakening, thus I firmly believe that the Philippines does not have a strong republic because democracy is not on its highest level. The Philippines calls itself a democracy since most of the citizens are able to express their various rights, express their collective decisions, and there is a government in which the power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly, but for me it is just a wasted democracy since not everyone benefits on it. Poor people who constitute the majority of Philippine society are being under the elites who control the democracy they possessed. It started from the time we were colonized by the Spaniards up to the time we achieved the independence with the aid of Americans. The democracy is already in our hands but the continuous insurgencies poisoned the democratic base of the country. Instead of just focusing on the communist groups who wanted to prevail in the country, the government itself is also a problem and one of the proofs are the People Power Revolutions that happened just to overthrow the head of the nation, that is why it is very hard to assume that we have strong democracy since those problems are in front of us at the moment America acquired the independence for us, but I believe that international support is the strength of Philippine democracy but we are so dependent to them that we forgot our own values. We are blinded by Western values and because of that we are easily manipulated and if they helped us, we are already taking into consideration that we have this debt of gratitude to the country that helped us like for instance Japan, America, and Australia gave their helping hands in dealing terrorism in our country.

Philippines has fragile democracy, that is why I cannot say that we have strong republic because just looking in our economy we can already state if we have it or not. In my point of view economy is the strength of the country and given that poverty is very rampant in our country, we cannot say that all of the Filipinos have high standards of living. Many of the Filipinos have no capacity to sustain the food they need every day, and also, not everyone has appropriate jobs to earn money and use it for managing their lives. Another, the word republic stresses the democratic context in which state strength is to be nurtured. Filipinos have chosen democracy, after ousting a dictator in 1986, in the hope that it would guarantee that required public choices will be made responsibly to people’s demands and the requirements of the economy but people in the upper class continued to hamper the progress and most of the politicians involved themselves on corruption, so no matter how hard foreign countries to extend their help to us it will take time for the Philippines to obtain strong republic because it is rooted on the politics and if the political instability will not be resolved, the democracy and the economy will be affected and therefore, it will weakened the Philippine Republic. It is already in our hands, Lapu-Lapu defeated Magellan, many Filipinos suffered in the American-Japanese War, it is a great sacrifice and now our only task is to make the democracy strong to achieve a strong republic. It will not happen if we still do not manage the diversity in our county. We are one nation but we are divided, and yes our government has the responsibility in making reforms to make the democracy well-built in but they cannot do that alone, unity is the solution so that our democracy will be strong and we are entitled to strong republic.-jspj-

While thinking about the paper I am going to submit in Philippine Political Dynamics that will serve as our Final exam, I looked at my recent entries on the said subject, and I found this. I have this guts to share it with you since I believe on everything I’ve stated there, and I was really shocked upon receiving my grade on that paper because I rushed it since my friends and I needed to go somewhere and unwind that night.

There are several people who waited for the SONA and I was absolutely one of them. To tell you the truth, before I did not bother myself with the President’s speech but as I became aware of the realities in our country, I realized that hearing the President is one of the significant responsibilities of a Filipino because it will present you proofs if ever you are skeptical about the developments that are happening on the President’s regime.

Since there was no class when SONA was aired on the television, I got to watched it from the beginning up to the end. Honestly, I am not a supporter of PNoy because I do not see any reason for him to state these words “tuwid na daan”. We all know that he wanted to remove the corrupt officials to finally have this straight path towards development and all this time I thought that eradicating corrupt officials is the only thing he is giving focus on, until I watched his SONA and found out that he had made various advancements from what was left by Arroyo’s period, and that was the time I regretted myself for thinking that he could not be the best President our country could have. In my assessment, I agree with his points highlighted in the speech  like the issue in the South China Sea wherein we should not give up what is really ours. In my view, that statement is correct, since as a leader he should be seen as someone who fights for the country’s territorial integrity and strengthen the beliefs of hopeless people who easily gave up the fight to China and other involved countries. Another, I have the same opinion with PNoy when he said that we can forgive but we cannot forget on what Arroyo have done that caused turbulence in our country. What GMA have done were not just simple conflicts that could easily be solved, rather it affected the lives of Filipinos that made them stuck on poverty and even lose what supposedly theirs, so what I mean here is the “Kaban ng bayan” which was corrupted by Arroyo. I also applauded him for saying at the end of his speech “what was once impossible is now possible”, because there were several people who do not believe on the capabilities of PNoy even at the start of his regime, but as time progressed, he proved that he could make everything happen just with the cooperation of the people. Even me, I was surprised of the things he have enumerated though honestly I was little bit doubtful on the statistics that he showed because if I was him I will not make it very specific because the opponents could use that in the future to measure against him if ever he will not accomplish it on time or if there were things not done as he step down his presidency, but I have already put my trust with our president because if I will continue to find objectionable to his presidency then what if other people are thinking the same way too, it will  not help the country. What PNoy needs is our support to make the things he enumerated possible. I once lost hope for the country because of distrusting the capabilities of the government but watching the SONA made me become PNoy’s proponent. There are people saying that his SONA did not tackle about what the society is really facing, and that is poverty, but as I always believe, EVERYTHING SHOULD NOT BE BLAMED IN THE GOVERNMENT ALONE, because everyone has their own responsibilities on their own lives, and PNoy already showed what he have been doing for the country to be progressive again. He made it possible for the Philippines to rise again and it will illuminate more with unity of Filipinos towards a set of goals.—JspJ

I am planning to go back to Manila on Wednesday morning since my class will start on 12:00 pm,but yesterday I received a message from our PRO that our block is required to attend a seminar, so obviously my plan was wrecked but in a lighter note, the seminar is very useful for my course. At first I am thinking how to encourage my blockmates to attend until there was a follow-up message that we MUST not ignore the invitation because it will serve as an attendance in our major subject, “South Asia”under Sir Ernie Mabahague, so I guess it will not be a pain in the ass to think for a reason because it is clear, ATTENDANCE IS A MUST!  So now let me give you the details and hope to see you there ASIANS, ARTLETS, and THOMASIANS!

Sisters On Tour

Plans are meant to be broken?

Summer Vacation is time to unwind with families and friends. Of course everything should be balanced. There should be time for family, there should be time for friends. To make the get together more exciting and to avoid dull moments, Planning 101 is badly needed…but as the cliche goes, “do not plan anything because it will not happen”.Yes that is totally right! That particular line is very suited to my circle of friends. We PLANNED A LOT but due to some circumstances, goodbye plans! But i still don’t want to mention those, since we are still hoping that one day it will happen, and if that happened, i will never doubt to post it here.

Planning is organizing things, ideas, and time. It will avoid trouble, it will let you have a back-up if things messed out, but depending on your planned activities will lead you nowhere. I mean, there are times when you just want to enjoy a certain moment which is not part of what you have planned. There are also times when you are no longer interested on what you have planned. To make things simple, most of the times you just want to go with the flow. As what I always heard, most of the unplanned things always happen. Like for instance, you are having a conversation with a friend then she said “let’s watch a movie”, or “let’s hangout”, without thinking twice you replied “sure”, there you go! You will enjoy each other’s company.

You know what, sometimes, it is not about the place or time, what matters most is the people you are with.

April 26,2012, my sisterfriends and I had our tour in one of the famous places in the Philippines, and that is Intramuros in Manila. Of all the places we planned to visit, our shoes brought us here. Indeed, It is more fun in the Philippines!

We called ourselves ‘feeling turista”.LOL

(Shades is a must!- Jac-Mara-Krizzy-Odin-Jo)

Unfortunately, time was not enough to visit the museum in Fort Santiago, thus, we just rode on a “kalesa”. This is one of my simplest dreams, to ride on a kalesa, and a big thanks to them since they have fulfilled one of my dreams.

As we roamed around, we got to see old buildings. I know i don’t need to lecture you about Intramuros since all history subjects already done their part to feed your brain about certain information. Words cannot express the beauty of its surroundings, thus, I will let you peek on the photos I have captured during the kalesa tour.

This place is so COOL! There are lots of awesome teens who are into skateboarding. Forgive me, I was not able to capture since the horse was fast (put to blame : )

Manila Cathedral. This is under construction so for those who wanted to visit, sorry guys.

I just wanted to capture this part of the Manila Cathedral, and while I was scanning the photos, i got to read the significant post. I love it! and I really agree! “No to RH bill”.

Palacio Del Gobernador. This used to be the Malacanang Palace many years ago, but now, this is the COMELEC.

Of course, souvenir shops for the tourists. Forgive me again, I did not have a photo of what’s inside but just so you know, you will find there jewelry which will shock you when it comes to the price. I mean, I think it is not worth it.

Before leaving, i requested to the “kutchero” if we can have a picture together and he said yes and I got a chance to wear his hat inspired by Bruno Mars.

We decided to go inside the church and pray but unfortunately as what I have said earlier, the church is under construction. So to kill the time, sisterfriends to camwhores.

A man said “kuhanan ko kayo”, Odin was hesitant to gave Mara’s SLR because the man might snatch it, but we noticed that the man has an assistant whose taking also a photo of us, thus we let the man to capture us using Mara’s SLR. We thought he was just playing around, he told us to pose like this, like that, then upon seeing the photos, WOW! We never thought that he was able to do it for just a second or what. Then suddenly we realized, ahhhh..he is a photographer in this place that’s why he has an assistant and he was able to produce this kind of photo.

We are five right?Someone is missing. Where’s Odin? Ooops, I just want you to know that this was taken by Odin. We all love this picture. It was like we are in a commercial, thus we realized, omgsh, what commercial models are doing is no sweat!( punch me please).

Anyway, we enjoyed the day! We walked a lot but everyone was still on high because whenever we are together, the word ‘tired” is suddenly out of our vocabulary.

Planned or unplanned, as long as you are with them, anything will do.

I do not need to look elsewhere, since with them my heart is delightful, or if ever there is a chance to look somewhere else but they are not on that place, I will definitely not go, because we were used to be “package”, as one.

This tour was not planned but it turned out well. Of course, we are not taking a way the plans we made.

One day, on the right time, it will definitely happen.
